The Kemptown Verses

By JJ Leahy

Null Man in Club Dasein

Largamente

Have you ever had to buy second hand shoes
Have you ever been – yesterday’s news,
Have you ever been so close, yet so far
Have you ever relied on coppers from a penny jar.

Have you ever shunned the morning light
Have you ever felt – that you were out of sight,

Have you ever cried out, that someone may hear
Have you ever been racked with incessant fear.

Have you ever been mauled by mental cirrhosis
Have you ever been afraid of your reasoning process;
Have you ever been loaded to heavy to bear
Have you ever encountered people – they don’t care.

Have ever been wrong, just to believe
Have you ever been – so naïve;
Have you ever been, to the brink at any cost
Have you ever been so sad and so lost.

Have you ever, had thoughts to derive
Have you ever had to die, in order to survive,

Have you never been clean, both body and soul
Have you never felt comfortably – out of control.

You well may know, these cords to use
But have you ever, really played the blues.
Have you ever felt bereft of fight
Have you ever run out – into the night.

Have you ever felt to blamed yourself
For misplaced delusions and declining heath,

Have you ever been told – to accept your lot
So come walk with me, I’ll judge you not.
