The Kemptown Verses

By JJ Leahy

You could have been a different person

Allegretto

Lamenting life through the passing years
Your betters now, were once your peers
You could have been a different person.

While time takes its weary toll
Can leave a sour, lonesome soul
You could have been a different person.

To cause a reaction at any cost
In selfish antics, love now lost
You could have been a different person.

Endure the riggers of life experience
Understand the delusion of deliverance
You could have been a different person.

A tread-bear sprint and the night cries out
All that is left – is feelings of doubt
You could have been a different person.

What characteristics, would you change
What traits of personality to rearrange
You could have been a different person.

Accruing grief and of events untold
To a hum drum existence, your life behold
Yes, you still could be a different person.
