The Kemptown Verses

By JJ Leahy

Just Wishing Time Away

Long wasted senseless day
Just wishing time away,

Gainful employment, some may say
Just wishing time away.

Always working, tomorrow and today
Just wishing the time away

I need the money, earn the pay
Still, wishing the time away.

Forever dreams of a better way
Just wishing the time away,

To labour, gives me heart of clay
Just wishing the time away.

Act out the child and run out to play;
Just wishing the time away

Spend the mornings in bed, I lay
Just wishing the time away.

Discover the alcove, in which to stay
Ambivalently wishing the time away,

Then enjoy the moment, live for today
Now I’m not wishing, the time away.
