The Kemptown Verses

Another Venue Called Relax

Moderato
A classy coffee shop, a restaurant or a funky bar
They all come to Brighton, connoisseurs from afar;

Borrow from the bank, much as one dares,
To refurbish the premises with new tables and chairs.

Totally exclusive, go expensive as you can
Furniture commissioned and designed in Milan,

The sound system crafted by German engineers
Bespoke twitters and woofers, luxury to the ears.

Panels of agar wood and heavenly smoked glass
Sculptures and statues, in marble and brass.

Adorn the venue with bronze figurines
Enjoy abundance of glass, in dolomite latrines;

With a Cordon Bleu chef, forget size of the ration
Serve haute cuisine created with cordial passion.

Satisfy the appetites of the posh and wealthy few
More pander to the pallets, of a discerning crew.

On the opening day, all feeling proud and hearty
No experience spared for the lavish launch party;

This venue will emanate, only pure class
Before it all ends, then descends into a farce!

Now come the time of the great mistake,
No, No, don’t relax, for goodness sake;

Start opening lazy late and closing too early
Ignore the staff needs and customers surly.

Running out of basics, that’s crossing boarders
Hung over management – forgot to place orders.

With the food and drink, priced too high
Not enough punters and the end is nigh;

Let the staff let go, as the bank wealds the axe
Now this is really the time, yeah time to relax.
A month down the line, new owners are in
Rip out all the fittings, its exciting to begin.
